To cure a disease, medication is often necessary, which can be obtained in a pharmacy in Germany. Some drugs, however, require a prescription. This means that you need a prescription from your family doctor or a specialist to be able to obtain the remedy. You then present this prescription at the pharmacy and receive the medicine. Do you have any other complaints? If you have minor ailments, you can also get advice on over-the-counter medication and then purchase it. If you should ever find yourself in front of a closed pharmacy, you will find information on the door about which pharmacies in the vicinity have emergency service and are also open at night.
The German health care system : Pharmacy: CostsIf you are insured with public health insurance and have been prescribed certain drugs by your doctor, you usually only have to pay a small amount of money yourself, not exceeding €10 per medication. The remaining amount is then automatically covered by your health insurance company. Nonprescription medication is not reimbursed by health insurance providers.
Are you privately insured with travel health insurance? If so, you must first pay the medication costs yourself. After your insurance company has successfully reviewed the bills, you will be reimbursed.
